This lovely lady’s name is Madrine. She is one of the original members of the Kind Mothers’ Project and has been weaving baskets for you for five years. When Rosemary, the founder of AfriBeads, first met Madrine she had an eleven year old son named Dick, who Madrine couldn’t afford to send to school. Having just come back from Uganda, Rosemary was able to rejoice with Madrine that her baskets have earned her enough to send her son to school.
These beautiful baskets are woven using raffia and palm using a traditional coiling technique. They come in a variety of vibrant colours which reflect the lively Ugandan culture. Madrine herself is quiet and gentle, and enjoys the friendship she finds in working with the other women.
She would like to introduce you to her new line of place mats (pink and yellow pictured at the bottom with her) which will be available next year. For now, please enjoy her beautiful baskets!
